Suzanne Bouffard, Ph.D., is a Project Manager at HFRP, where she has worked since 2003. She currently manages HFRP's work on complementary learning, which is HFRP's concept for addressing the achievement gap. Complementary learning occurs when two or more institutions (such as families, schools, community programs, and cultural institutions) intentionally link with each other to improve learning and developmental outcomes for children and youth. She also provides primary research and communications support to projects on family involvement and out-of-school time. Trained as a researcher, she specializes in translating research into user-friendly formats for practitioners and the public.
Suzanne has authored and edited publications for multiple audiences, including research and policy briefs, HFRP's quarterly periodical, The Evaluation Exchange, and academic journal articles. She also co-edited an issue of New Directions for Youth Development on participation in out-of-school time programs. She has presented her work at numerous conferences and workshops for practitioners, parents, and researchers. She has also taught courses in child development and writing at Duke University and Wesleyan University.
Suzanne received her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Duke University, where she was a J.B. Fellow and a University Scholar. Her graduate research focused on family educational involvement among families from diverse backgrounds, including the use of new methods, such as Internet technology. She received her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University.
